Research Focus

The article revisits VIKOR, a multi-criteria decision-making method designed to maximize group utility while minimizing individual regret. It examines how the method’s calculations can amplify individual regret and contribute to ranking reversal.

Enhanced VIKOR

The proposed enhanced version of VIKOR reduces the impact of individual regret while preserving the original objectives of the method. The aim is to improve balance in decision-making and produce more reliable rankings when alternatives are evaluated under conflicting criteria.

Validation Design

The study evaluates the enhanced method through comparisons with ten different VIKOR versions and eleven commonly used MCDM methods. It also examines whether the enhanced procedure can be applied across existing VIKOR variants.

Sensitivity and Application

A sensitivity analysis adjusts criteria weights using the ordered weighted averaging method. An illustrative case study involving the selection of a manufacturing process is used to validate the proposed model and assess its practical performance.

Findings

The reported results indicate that the enhanced VIKOR model is robust and capable of producing more reliable outcomes. The study also presents the method as practical for real-world decision-making scenarios involving multiple criteria.

Key Takeaways

  • VIKOR balances group utility and individual regret.
  • Individual regret amplification can contribute to ranking reversal.
  • The enhanced method reduces this influence while retaining VIKOR’s objectives.
  • Comparative testing and sensitivity analysis support the proposed model.
